Early this morning, as Barkya and I came out for our walk, a gathering of noisy crows drew my attention to an owl dangling from one of the top branches of the neem tree. It was quite horribly entangled in a kite string and I thought it was dead, but then it moved its head and blinked. I asked one of the neighbors to call the fire brigade and they came immediately in their truck and got the bird down. Everyone was quite relieved that it was still alive. They said they would take it to the forest department office for treatment.
Barkya is three years old today. He had cake and ice-cream, a race around the garden, and a longer nap than usual.
You can feel the Monsoon approaching. There is a lovely expectancy in the air, and the Rain Lilies are already out.
